Good evening everyone and welcome to “The 39 Steps”. After two successful main house shows in the shape of the classic British sitcom (‘Allo ‘Allo and Hi De Hi) thoughts focused on what do we do next? Certainly not another sitcom. And definitely not another Terry Pratchett. Respect, though!
Murder, mystery and intrigue came to mind. Perhaps an Agatha Christie? Then James suggested “39”. Fab!!...only that it is still a current West End hit. Fortunately, Aber is many miles from London. Indeed, one may well think that this a particularly fortuitous predicament on any day of the week....even more fortuitous when we are considered to be sufficiently distanced from London’s Theatreland for the publishers to grant us the rights to produce this classic tale.
We have continued the notion of self conscious theatricality which the original production maintains. They do it with four actors. We do it in true community style with twenty four plus! I won’t explain all this now...you will soon spot it all. The production is a comic take on Hitchcock’s 1935 classic film with Robert Donat....the remakes are not so good. As always this show has been a joy to work on and we hope you enjoy our take on this great story.
