Production Notes

This is an extremely exciting project for us all. We were delighted to be invited to perform this piece by the Revd. Tim Morgan, following the success of our performance of Harrison's Nativity at Christmas 2006. As you can see, the church is a magnificent building - parts of which date back to the Twelfth Century. This is the first time we have staged a "site specific" project, so we are enormously grateful to Tim for the opportunity to perform in such wonderful surroundings. Site specific work does post certain problems. One of which that because we are not performing on a conventional stage you may not get an entirely clear view of some of the action. However we have made every effort to ensure that there is always something engaging happening! Harrison's script is his own poetical/theatrical adaptation of the original medieval Mystery play. Like his adaptation of the Nativity, the piece can be seen on both spiritual and domestic levels. As well as depicting Christ's last days on Earth prior to the Resurrection, it is also a story of a man who is persecuted and put to death because of his beliefs. Harrison's poetry is beautiful, complex and immensely challenging for the actors. Hopefully this, coupled with the fantastic building and the music (which has been specially composed for this piece) will create a unique theatrical event! -- David Blumfield, April 2008
